Sett Studios

About Sett Studio

Sett Studio is a forward-thinking approach to functional space. By combining modern and contemporary design with the latest in energy-efficient building materials, we provide usable space for people who are interested in an attractive, eco-friendly alternative.

With our modular construction, we build your studio in our warehouse and deliver it to your property. Instead of months of on-site construction, Sett installs in just days.
Sett can be utilized in an variety of ways - as a home office, art studio, yoga space, kids room, game room, guest room - the space fits your needs. Layouts range from 97-192 square feet, eliminating the requirement for building permits in most cases.

To effectively create engaging, responsible space, we focus on three fundamental elements - design, materials and purpose of space.

Design

Designed by award-winning and published architects, the modern perspective establishes our forward-thinking focus and approach. Instead of a converted “shed”, owners have an attractive space that enhances their property. We want people to have a space they are excited to see, and eager to use. All Sett units are designed to accommodate solar and rainwater packages, and offer a variety of upgrades.

Materials

Built with SIP (Structural Insulated Panel) technology, Sett utilizes the most energy-efficient material available. These panels not only minimize energy use, they also

significantly reduce on-site material waste. We also utilize our signature surfacing material - Monotread - a sustainable interior surfacing application that is extremely durable.

Purpose of Space

Creating additional space to your home environment can be difficult. Adding on to an existing structure is typically costly, requires building permits and is intrusive during the course of construction.

Sett is cost-effective, usually requires no permits and we build your studio off-site and deliver it - meaning you don’t have to endure the construction process.

Materials

We are committed to responsible building, and utilize only energy-efficient and sustainable materials.

SIPS

Simply put, SIP technology is the most energy and material-efficient building component available.
SIPs are highly energy-efficient, air-tight building panels used for walls, floors and ceilings. Results of blower door tests reveal that a SIP test room is 15 times more airtight than its stick framed counterpart with fiberglass insulation, far exceeding ENERGY STAR standards.

Similarly, SIPs greatly reduce the material waste generated during construction as compared to its on-site equivalent. Utilizing advanced software, the panels are custom built to the exact dimensions of the structure. Not only does it create less waste material, less energy is required to produce the components of SIPs.

The enhanced airtight integrity of SIPs also promotes vastly superior indoor air quality. By limiting incoming air leakage, a SIP structure minimizes contaminants and allergens and reduces susceptibility to mold growth. SIPs have no off-gassing effect and contain virtually no VOCs.

For more information on the benefits of SIPs, visit the SIP Association website.

Monotread

Our signature interior surface, Monotread is a durable, seamless, sustainable material used on floors, walls and ceilings. Milled from OSB (Oriented Strand Board), Monotread is produced from fast-growing, underutilized, inexpensive wood species grown in carefully managed forests. The combination of wood chips allows a unique, monolithic presentation allowing various applications.

Shou-Sugi-Ban

Burned-wood or charred-wood siding, Shou-Sugi-Ban is Japanese wood treatment used in various elements throughout Sett – interior and exterior. Not only does it deliver an attractive aesthetic, the burning also weatherizes the wood, prevents bugs and rot, and has enhanced fire-resistance.

Windows and Doors

All of the windows and doors used in Sett are energy-efficient, Low-e, double-pane glass and ENERGY STAR certified.

How do I get Sett?

First, you determine the model that best suits your needs, select the accessories you need and give us a call or email us. We will quickly prepare your quote and answer any questions you have. After you submit a deposit, we build your Sett in our warehouse and deliver it to your property. You will need to contact your local building department to determine the specific requirements for your area. If you would like Sett to help you acquiring the necessary information and permits, we can help you for a fee. It is the buyer's responsibility to assess the need for building permits, if they are required in your area.

How long does it take to build?

Once the contract is signed and deposit has been received, your Sett will be ready for delivery within 45 days. After we have arrived at your location, on-site setup will take no longer than 2 days.

What about shipping?

Shipping costs and times will vary depending on your location. Centrally located in Austin, Texas, we can quickly deliver to most parts of the country. Given the location, we can give you an exact cost of shipping. Below are approximate shipping costs from our facility in Austin.

Austin area $500
1,000 miles $2000
2,000 miles $3000

Do I need a permit?

In most cases, no. Most areas define an accessory structure as anything below 200 or 120 square feet, and thus require no permit. Building requirements vary depending on local codes, and need to be verified. If a permit is required, Sett can provide architectural drawings for a small fee, and meet any requirements you need.

Can I order a custom studio?

Absolutely. Whether you want a larger size or just something different, we can design and build a space to fit your specific needs.
